June is National Safety Month

Workplace safety is always important, but soon safety takes center stage because June is National Safety Month. The theme this year is “Safety Starts with Me”, which highlights the importance of personal responsibility when it comes to workplace safety.

National Safety Month is a great time for businesses to review their safety policies and educate workers, and it doesn’t have to be done in a boring way. Make learning about safety fun. Create activities like a month-long competition between departments or work shifts about knowing safety rules and standards. Quiz workers about safety regulations and offer rewards or prizes for those who score the highest. Start a lunchtime workout routine or a similar employee wellness program. Challenge workers to PALA+ (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Plus) goals.

Get creative during National Safety Month. Workers will learn more if they’re having fun doing it.

Each week during June has a different theme, which provides something to concentrate on. Plan your schedule to coincide with each of these themes.

  • Week 1: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls
  • Week 2: Employee Wellness
  • Week 3: Emergency Preparedness
  • Week 4: Ergonomics
